A “gentlemen`s agreement” is an agreement that is not legally applicable and must be “only honorably binding”. An oral contract can also be described as a parol or oral contract, “verbally” rather than “spoken” rather than “in words”, a usage established in British English in terms of contracts and agreements, and usually, although it is somewhat “loose” in American English. On the other hand, domestic and social agreements such as those concluded between children and parents on the basis of public policy are generally inapplicable. For example, in the English case Balfour v. Balfour, a husband, agreed to give his wife £30 a month when he was not at home, but the court refused to enforce the agreement when the husband stopped paying. .
